If you haven’t heard about ManageWP, you are going to want to sit down and take notes on this one. Or better yet, visit their website. This is simply the best WordPress tool available on the market. Period.

So what the heck is it? Here are just a few of the WP issues that are easily dealt with by this fairly new tool

  • – Manage all of your WP installations f rom 1 dashboard including traffic, uptime, and more
  • – Login to any of your WP sites with just one click
  • – Update the WordPress core, Themes, and Plugins across all of your WP sites with a single click
  • – Backup all of your WP sites automatically to Amazon, Dropbox, Email, or via FTP automatically on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis
  • – Add pages or posts to multiple sites at the same time
  • – Clean out spam comments, optimize your database, and remove old post revisions with just a single click
  • – Bulk install plugins and themes
  • – And too many more features to list!

My Story I manage close to 40 WP sites in various stages of deployment. Some of them are half-baked ideas that I started when I had some extra time, some of them are client sites, and some of them are sites for myself or my company. Needless to say, it’s nearly impossible to keep up with updating everything. Do you know what happens when you don’t update everything? I do now! About 5 months ago after a few of my sites got hacked due to old outdated versions of WordPress and themes. It would take me so long to login to all of my WP sites every month to update theme that I never did it for my hobby sites. Oops…

Enter ManageWP…

After I got the malware cleaned up (which wasn’t actually that bad), I found Manage WP. It now takes me a whole 10 minutes to update every version of WP, all of my themes & plugins, delete all of my spam comments, delete old post revisions that are taking up space, and optimize my database. Beyond that, I can now install a plugin (or theme) across all of my WP sites at the same time without having to login to each them every time. It saves so much time, I’m not even sure what to do with myself. Oh, and if there is an update I want to skip because I don’t have the time to deal with it, I can simply uncheck the box next to that update and ManageWP will just ignore it so I can go about updating the rest of my stuff. This is especially great for sites that I have done special mods to so I can make sure they don’t get overridden with the updates.

By the way, the tool is simply a plugin that you install to each of your sites. Once you install their plugin, you go back to your ManageWP dashboard and add the site. It’s as simple as that.

The rest of the ManageWP dashboard is pretty amazing as well by the way. From the dashboard I can see an overview of my traffic for all of my sites as well as recent posts (great for overseeing other bloggers), recent and pending comments, and how many updates are available for my sites. It makes it so incredibly easy to stay on top of traffic stats, posts, and comments that managing many WP sites can actually be efficient again. This has become one of those tools that I use so often that I can hardly understand how I lived without it for so long.

I’ve also found the uptime monitoring tool helpful. So your host claims that you get 99.9% uptime to your site? With ManageWP, I receive an email anytime my site goes down and another when it goes back up. Fortunately for me, I don’t get very many : ) but it’s a helpful thing to know.

Beyond My Experience

I’ll be honest, there are a lot of features to WP that I haven’t even gotten around to checking out yet. Apparently you can clone any one of your sites to another installation of WP so that you can easily move your site between hosts (should you find out that your site is actually down 20% of the time!). There are also traffic alerts that you can set up to let you know if the traffic on any of your sites drops significantly. This helps make sure you find out quickly if there is something wrong with your site… like if you forget to renew your domain by accident… not that I did that 🙁

The tool also lets you create other users so that your minions can log in and update things for you without having access to everything. It also has some keyword tracking features with their premium package that I haven’t played around with much but that sound pretty sweet.

But since I don’t have time to get into all of the rest of the features (like malware scanning, broken link checker, page load speed checker, xHTML validators, etc.) I’ll just encourage you to check out what I have dubbed, “The Ultimate WordPress Tool.” You can get a FREE account to test it out which allows you to manage up to 5 sites.
